Myanmar Traditional Food

1. Jaggery

Jaggery is made of the products of sugarcane and the toddy palm tree.  India, Myanmar, and Southeast Asia mostly make them and have them as a dessert. It has two colours, golden brown and dark brown. People have golden brown jaggery after meals because it is digested. People put dark brown jaggery in the traditional desserts.

2. Boiled Rice Balls (Mont Lone Yay Paw)

Myanmar people made rice balls for the Thingyan Festival. The recipe is super easy and kids can help. All we need is glutinous rice flour and jaggery. Put a piece of jaggery in rice flour and put it in boiled water. As a preparation, you can garnish with fresh coconut shavings. Then ready to eat. Mont Lone Yay Paw is translated as floated rice balls. Because when we put those rice balls in boiled water, they float as they are light.

4. Bein Mont

Bein Mont is a Myanmar-style pancake that is one of the best street foods. It basically has 2 flavors. The original one is with jaggery flavor and they mix the pastry with jaggery. It's basically golden brown. They add sesame on top of it and it tastes sweet and incredibly good! The other flavor is with boiling beans and parsley. And it does probably taste good when they mix the smell of parsley and the sweet of boiling beans. The perfect taste!

5. Shan Noodles

Shan noodles are basically Shan’s traditional food. The dish is a combination of thin, flat rice noodles in a clear, peppery broth with marinated chicken or pork, served with a side of pickled vegetables. Compared with other noodle dishes, it is relatively simple but delicious. Most of the people from Myanmar like Shan noodles and they are quite famous for breakfast. There are two types of Shan noodles; salad Shan noodle or pouring chicken soup Shan Noodle. They taste quite similar. My mom prefers Shan Noodles with chicken soup and I prefer salad Shan Noodles. It just depends on how you would like to eat. The perfection!
